Canada Disability Benefit payment dates

The CDB is paid monthly, on the third Thursday of each month, on a schedule separate from CPP and OAS payment dates. Direct deposit recipients usually see the money on the scheduled morning; cheque recipients should allow extra days for delivery before contacting Service Canada.
Remaining 2026 dates and the 2026–27 pattern
For the rest of 2026, the scheduled dates are Thursday, October 15, 2026, Thursday, November 19, 2026, and Thursday, December 17, 2026. The benefit year then continues on the same third-Thursday pattern: January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15, May 20 and June 17, 2027, with June 2027 the final payment of the current benefit year before the next July indexation. If a date falls on a holiday, Service Canada adjusts it; the benefits payment calendar on Canada.ca is the authoritative list for any month you are unsure about.
First payments, back pay and small amounts
Your first payment comes on the third Thursday of the month after your application is approved, and it includes back payments where you qualify — up to 24 months back from the application's receipt, never before June 2025. A first payment can therefore be much larger than a regular month: it may bundle many months of entitlement. Conversely, if your annual entitlement is $240 or less, the whole year is paid as a single lump sum instead of monthly instalments. Neither pattern is an error; both are how the regulations handle edge amounts.
Direct deposit, cheques and the tax question
Set up direct deposit through My Service Canada Account to avoid postal delays and lost cheques; a changed bank account should be updated before the next payment run, not after. The CDB is not taxable, no tax slip is issued for it, and it is not entered as income on your tax return — but, as stressed throughout this site, you must still file a return every year, because the return is what drives the next July recalculation. A year with no return is a year the recalculation cannot run.
The fall-2026 supplemental payment
A one-time supplemental payment was added in fall 2026 under the regulations (SOR/2026-123), with phased delivery: recipients already in pay were targeted first, and newer recipients were scheduled to receive it with a later first payment. Canada.ca confirms that supplemental payments are not payable for individuals who died before September 2026. Because the supplement's amount and phasing are set administratively and have changed during rollout, this site does not headline a supplement figure — check Canada.ca or your My Service Canada Account for whether a supplement is due to you and when.
